An unverified alarm tells nobody what's actually happening. In many areas — including Moncton — police won't dispatch on an alarm signal alone without photo, video, or an eyewitness. What happens after I submit the form?
A Vanguard technician calls you back — usually within one business day — to ask a few questions about the property and book a free site visit. No charge, no obligation, and nobody shows up at your door unannounced.
What actually makes it "verified"?
When a sensor trips, your cameras capture the scene and a trained operator at Maximum Video Surveillance — our ULC-listed monitoring partner — looks at the live photo or video and confirms whether it's a real threat, before any response goes out. That confirmation is the difference between an alarm signal nobody can act on and a reported crime in progress.
Photo or video — which one do I need?
For most people it comes down to budget. Video verification is monitored per camera, so the cost scales with how many cameras your property needs; photo verification is significantly less expensive and covers most single-building sites very well. Video earns its keep on yards, lots, and properties with several approaches to watch. On the site visit we'll recommend the smaller option whenever the smaller option is genuinely enough.
I'm already with another provider. Can I switch?
Yes — switchers are exactly who this offer is for, and depending on your current contract terms we may be able to buy you out of it. Bring the contract to the site visit and we'll tell you straight whether switching now makes sense or whether you should wait.
Can I keep my current equipment?
Usually not the cameras. Verification depends on our motion cameras specifically, and it's very unlikely another provider installed compatible ones. Door contacts and motion sensors can sometimes be reused if you're not going the photo route, but that's never guaranteed until a technician sees the site. You'll know exactly what carries over before you commit to anything.
I already have security cameras. Can you monitor those?
Often, yes. If your existing cameras are ONVIF-compatible we can bring them into monitoring — we install a Vanguard hub to control them. This is worth asking about if you've already invested in a camera system for your business and don't want to start over.
Do I own the equipment, or am I renting it?
You own it. You can buy the system outright or finance it, but either way it's your property — not hardware you rent indefinitely and hand back if you leave.
Can I see my own cameras?
Yes. You get app access to your own system, so you can check the property yourself any time — the operator watching for alarm events is in addition to that, not instead of it.
What if I sell the property or the business?
The monitoring agreement can transfer to the new owner, so a sale doesn't leave you holding a contract for a building you no longer have.
What happens if the power or internet goes down?
Backup can be built into the system — it depends on the setup and it does add to the cost, so it's a decision we'll walk through on the site visit rather than assume for you. Neither internet nor cellular is strictly required to run verification, though a wired internet connection is normally faster and more reliable than 5G or LTE.
